I have this old pc which haves a QDI SUPERB 4V-ALX motherboard, w Pentium 4. I don't have the manual since I purchased the computer in a thirft store, I didn't managed to find it online.

Well, the problem is, I managed to get all drivers to work on Windows 98 SE installation (which I'm writing this from) but I have no clue how I can get the darn DOS Audio work. I have tried checking in the bios, but 'legacy audio' thing isn't there! I even tried pressing CTRL + F1.

I have no idea how to get it to work, could you guys help me? As a person that never installed DOS audio drivers before, could you guys explain it step by step? ------------------------------- MOTHERBOARD: MB QDI SUPERB 4V-AL X P4 SKT478 DDR SB+LAN 91315717 AUDIO: AC97 SiS 7012 (As listed in device manager, works in Windows 98) MPU-401 Compatible (Listed in the device manager) ----------------------------------- Alternative solution: I have also tried putting a PCI Sound Blaster, but the machine just beeps and then it freezes at the post/bios loading thing (the loading page that says press DEL to enter bios. With the energy star logo on the top right) Can't even access the bios. PCI Sound Blaster number is: CT4810 --- If there isn't a solution of these problems, it is possible to flash the bios to bring the legacy audio option back in? I really have no idea how to solve this. Thank you for reading.

Therefore no DOS support. If you really want to delve into AC'97 DOS support, see these. You will be able to play CDs and Wave files, but nothing for games: You could also use VDMsound which should work pretty ok-ish for running DOS games from within Windows. You can use DOSBOX to run DOS games from within Windows and that will give you sound.

Does the PCI sound blaster card work in a different computer? If so, have you tried all the different PCI slots in the computer you want to use it in? Sounds like either a resource conflict or a dead card to me. The PCI sound blaster cards are not going to give you a optimal/very good emulation for OPL3 music in games, but sound and MIDI music should work ok. Depends on the chipset of your motherboard. Good PCI sound cards that support DOS are: Anything with a Yamaha YMF7x4 chipset (watch out for relabeled CMI chipsets) Some ESS chipsets - Solo-1 being the most popular Some Crystal chipsets Aureal Vortex/Vortex2. I will try tomorrow the sound blaster on another computer. The fact is, in the same PCI slot that the sound blaster was in there is now a modem PCI card which is working fine. If I manage to get that Soundblaster to work, do I need to fiddle with legacy audio thing in the bios or not? Since it's not there. SiS 7012 don't support legacy audio as the SiS7018 did (found in 635 and 735 chipsets). For your Live!

You can try cleaning the PCI connector of the card, also try it in different PCI slots. You can also try to manually configure the IRQ of the PCI slot you're using, that's usually possible on boards with SiS chipsets.
