I have a Model 52 plow. I replaced a spring in the 'trip' mechanism last year. I used it yesterday and had a couple of problems. 1st, I must have had very wet ground and the plow out of adjustment. The plow was really working my '52 AR? It barely could pull it in 2nd gear. I think the plow depth setting was too deep.

The other trouble I had was at the end of the row I could not get the plow to come up out of the ground. I pulled the rope, the lever moved forward and the wheel was slipping on the ground as though it was trying to 'trip' the plow out of the ground, but couldn't.

The rear most land wheel is off of the plow, if that detail is important. Could it be as simple as the plow was set too deep? I eventually ran out of daylight and unhitched hoping for some advice from this helpful forum. I have a #52 12' plow and pull it with a 36 Unstyled A and don't have any problems with lifting out of the ground. 6' to 7' depth would be a maximum depth I would try and plow depending on conditions. Is the land wheel skidding on the ground when you are trying to get it to lift?

Mine is on steel and I have had when plowing in trashy conditions and maybe a little dew on the ground the wheel can't get enough traction and will skid. You also said the tail wheel is not touching the ground. If you have the levers set for plowing depth that wheel should be rolling on the ground, you might have the hitch out of adjustment.
